Introduction to Rome - Spanish Steps
Set on the Piazza di Spagna in the Eternal City of Rome, the Scalitina della Trinita die Monti (Spanish Steps) are one of the most visited of Rome’s spectacular attractions. Leading up to the Trinita dei Monti Church, the 138 steps were built in 1738, and form the broadest staircase in Europe. In the piazza itself are many historic monuments, including the John Keats Museum, the house where the great English romantic poet lived and died, the Palazzo Monaldeschi and the 15th century palace of Cardinal Lorenzo Cybo de Mari. The piazza is surrounded by charming streets and yet more remnants of Rome’s iconic heritage, all easily accessible from Spanish Steps hotels. The glories of this fabulous city with its over 2,000 years of history are set along its seven hills, with the medieval and Renaissance treasures of the Old City district set close to the Spanish Steps.
