Introduction to Rome, Italy
The capital of Italy is a huge city with a massive range of attractions and one of the most important histories in the Western world.

There is something for almost everybody in this heady city which is home to everything from the seat of the Catholic Church and ruins of the Roman Empire to delightful cafes, mouth-watering ristoranti and decades of fine fashion.

This is a big city, so some amount of travelling is usually required for visitors staying at Rome hotels to reach all of the sights.

The historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, sits a few hundred metres west of the modern centre of the city.

Many of the city's finest shopping and dining is found close by, particularly along Via Veneto.

This is also where the romantic Trevi Fountain, the huge Quirinal Palace and the rather epic Palace of the Barberini can be found.

The huge Roman Coliseum is only a few minutes away.

The Pantheon, perhaps one of the city's most impressive sights, is one of the most important attractions for its incredible domed roof, but historians are just as likely to be impressed with the well-preserved ruins of the Roman Forum.
