Introduction to Rome - Aventino
Monte Aventino, or Aventine Hill, is one of Rome's famous seven hills and lends its name to the eponymous neighbourhood. The area is home to a rich variety of historic sites and other attractions, the number and importance of which would be particularly impressive were it not for the fact that this city is already home to a world-beating number of cultural and historic gems. Still, should you never venture farther than your feet can carry you in a day, hotels in Aventino will provide access to an almost never-ending supply of fabulous historic buildings, impressive sculptures, cultural icons, important artworks, scenic squares and roads, mouth-watering delicacies and thirst-quenching drinks. The medieval church of Santa Maria is home to the Bocca del Verita marble image. Nearby is the western end of Circus Maximus. In May or June, head up the hill to the Rose Garden. The gate on the hill offers a superb view of the Vatican. On any morning, except Sundays, don't miss the Testaccio Market. These are just a few of the glorious sights that await visitors to this heady slice of Rome next to the banks of the River Tiber.Visit our Rome Travel Guide
