Introduction to Ravenna - Outskirts
Ravenna is a city located within the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It is not an overly renowned city, but it still offers some of the best mosaic churches in the country. It's not just the central part of the city that attracts tourists. The outskirts offer plenty of things to see and do. To the southeast of the city lies a spectacular forest reserve known as Duna Costiera, which boasts magnificent natural scenery overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. To the north of the reserve, the city's port area can be found. Here, visitors can jump on a ferry to Catania. Ravenna hotels are only a short distance from the port so tourists can reach the area without difficulty. Ravenna's beach areas are all found in the outskirts and offer some of the best coastal zones for tourists. In fact, the beaches will host the 2011 FIFA Beach Football World Cup. There are some other places worth visiting too, including the coastal Pineta de Ravenna Nature Reserve to the northeast and the Valli de Commachio lagoons to the north.
