Introduction to Puglia - Foggia
Like several other communities in Italy, some of Foggia's charm was lost when bomb damage incurred during WWII was repaired with modern buildings in the 1960s. Thankfully, a little bit of the city's medieval heart remains, giving visitors something to explore in addition to checking out Chiesa di San Tommaso, the 12th-century cathedral - considered a major attraction throughout the region of Puglia. Despite the relative lack of real attractions in the town, hotels in Foggia offer a great base from which to explore the region. A drive through the verdant Gargano Peninsula, with its beautiful national park, makes for an excellent daytrip. The city is well-served by transport links, with the E65 Euroroute just a few minutes' drive to the east. A short drive northwest from the city brings you to the town of Lucera, another picturesque Italian town. The town's railway station sits on the eastern edge of town and enjoys regular rail services. Gina Lisa, the town's small airport, is only a few minutes away by car.
