Introduction to Potenza, Italy
The Italian city of Potenza is the capital of the province which goes by the same name and the Basilicata region, and at 819m, it is the highest regional capital in Italy. The city has a number of important landmarks from ancient times, with the cathedral, erected in the 12th century and renovated in the neoclassical age, being home to some interesting works of art. Evidence of the city's medieval castle remains at Torre Guevara, while the national and provincial archaeological museums have many historical discoveries linked to Potenza's past. The 12th century Romanesque Church of San Michele Arcangelo is home to some important works of art such as the Madonna del Carmine. Potenza hotels are found throughout the city and within walking distance of many of the main historical sites.
