Introduction to Pisa - Casciana Terme
Lime sulphur baths whose waters boast average temperatures of 37°C have been Casciana Terme's main attractions since 1927. This was the same year this small community in the province of Pisa became an independent community, having once belonged to a larger municipality called Lari. However, this town and its surrounding Pisan hills have more than 2,000 years of history behind them. Most Casciana Terme hotels are located near the famous thermal baths of Acqua Mathelda, whose hot waters have treated various digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular ailments since ancient times. The main landmark of the town centre is its piazza, which dates back centuries. Parlascio and Gello Mattaccino are the two main castles here. The most significant churches are San Martino, Santa Maria Assunta and the Our Lady of Seven Sorrows oratory. Major festivals here include a village carnival, a flowered balcony competition, the children's San Genesio feast, a Christmas living activity and the Via del Arco art exhibition. Pisa, with its famed Leaning Tower, is around 40kms to the northwest. Visit our Pisa Travel Guide
