Introduction to Perugia - Citta della Pieve
Southwest of the Italian city of Perugia is Citta della Pieve, a picturesque community with a long history than can be traced back to the Etruscans. The town sits atop a hill overlooking the Tiber River on the western end of Umbria. Nearly all of the downtown area is built of bricks, from its churches to its plazas. This happened between the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, so most of the architecture in Citta della Pieve has a nice historic element to it. The city's cathedral anchors the downtown core, and is home to a number of paintings by the city's most famous son, Pietro Vannucci, one of Italy's most renowned painters. The town is also quite proud of its Roman well, another landmark in the city centre. Citta della Pieve hotels can be found throughout the town, though the nicest ones tend to be clustered around the cathedral and the central plaza. other spellings: cita dela pieve hotels, cita dalla otel, cita dala pieve hote, hotesin citta dela peve
