Introduction to Parma - Outskirts
There’s more than just ham and cheese to the city of Parma in the north of Italy, which is most famous for the aforementioned locally produced products and its beautiful old architecture. Many people visit this gorgeous city to enjoy the world famous Italian cuisine as well as to soak up the culture of the area. Hotels in Parma can be found across the city though most are situated in the city centre. The magnificent cathedral of the city stands in Piazza Duomo along with the 12th century, Benedetto Antelami-designed baptistery. The latter is often visited for its frescos housed within along with its interior relief sculptures and pink marble exterior, which appears to change shades depending on the position of the sun. After a busy day sightseeing, visitors can unwind at an opera performance at Teatro Regio after enjoying some of the city’s local dishes over dinner. Prosciutto di Parma and tortelli are must-trys. The historic centre can be easily toured on foot but taxis are readily available.
