Introduction to Orvieto, Italy
Orvieto, in the province of Umbria, is in a privileged and unique position, set high on the top of a plateau of rock. The city has changed its ways to cater for the modern tourist, and in the town there are some good Orvieto hotels. The get to the city, visitors have a choice of going up in the funicular railway or taking to the road and the minibus service. The funicular operates from the railway station. The third alternative is to take one of the escalators which have been created from digging into the side of the cliff. One of the sights visitors can enjoy from the funicular train is the Albornoz fortress. The hotels in Orvieto are grouped near the A1 autostrada or are located in the town.
