Introduction to Oristano - City Centre
Like many communities in Italy that look wonderful to outsiders, the Sardinian city of Oristano has its fair share of grime and graffiti. It should not be hard to look past this, however, and enjoy the incredible history demonstrated through the range of architecture in the town. Established in Medieval times, the community became wealthy and powerful about 1,000 years ago. A range of attractions can be enjoyed from hotels in Oristano City Centre. The Duomo cathedral is an impressive building with Gothic roots beneath a Baroque upgrade. Portixedda, the historic centre of town, has less of an historic atmosphere than many such old towns but is still worth seeing. The Museo Antiquarium Arborense is the city's only museum but it is easy to reach and offers an excellent selection of prehistoric and archaeological exhibits. Getting in and out of the city or touring the island is made easier with the many ARST and FdS buses. Depending on your destination, you'll either want to head for Via Cagliari or Via Lombardia. Dozens of trains available at the train station on Piazza Ungheria.
