Introduction to North Sardinia - Porto Rotondo
The town of Porto Rotondo is a small coastal resort in the northern reaches of Sardinia, Italy's largest island province. It stands about 16kms to the north of Olbia, one of Sardinia's most important port cities. Porto Rotondo hotels make up many of the establishments in the town but there are also plenty of restaurants, too. Some of the restaurants are positioned along the coastline, offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean for dining customers. Due to its seclusion and well-known yacht club, this beautiful coastal settlement is popular among tourists to the Costa Smeralda, for which it is the main centre. Porto Rotondo may not have the spark of other Sardinian cities, but it sure does have the charm. The closest highway is about five kilometres to the south, known as the SP16. The Sardinian railway line also meanders with the SP16, but catching a train to the town will not take passengers all the way. It is usually best to simply take a ferry, train or plane to Olbia, then travel by car or bus to the town.
