Nerano is an old fishing village situated halfway between Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.
Its name derives from the Roman emperor Augustus, whose name in Italian is Tiberio Nerone.
He decided to have a villa built in this area and to name the village Neronianum, which has since become known as Nerano.
The town is within the tourist region of the Sorrento coast.
