Introduction to Naples - Plebiscito
At the heart of the famed Italian city of Naples is the Plebiscito district, just a short distance from the waterfront and the city's harbour on the Gulf of Naples. This lively area is bursting with history, food, culture, music and more, and it would simply be difficult to see it all without spending extensive time here. At the centre of it all is the Piazza del Plebiscito, one of the biggest squares in all of Naples. On one end of the plaza is the magnificent Royal Palace, built as part of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies and featuring numerous extravagant rooms, a museum as well as a library and the majestic Teatro di San Carlo. This theatre is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe's oldest opera venues. Meanwhile, the other end of the square boasts the massive, Pantheon-esque, column-studded San Francesco di Paola church. Steps away is Molosiglio Garden, a good selection of Plebiscito hotels and the Parthenope University of Naples.Visit our Naples Travel Guide
