Monte Argentario is a peninsula and municipality located in the region of Tuscany, in Italy. It is located roughly 150kms south of Florence and connected to mainland Italy by three spits of land that form two lagoons. On the east side is Laguna de Levante and on the west is Laguna di Ponente. Monte Argentario has two main villages; on the north coast is Porto Santo Stefano and on the southeast coast in Porto Ercole. This popular tourist destination, particularly among Romans and Tuscans, boasts fascinating rock formations along its coastline and stunning mountains situated inland. Much of the area remains uninhabited and is extremely popular among hikers. There are numerous Monte Argentario hotels found across the peninsula, particularly in the north as well as some which are located on two of the three spits which connect to the mainland. Via Panoramica provides a peaceful drive along the south coast of Monte Argetario, while Forte Stella and Forte Filippo forts in Porto Ercole, and the Rocca Spagnola fortress in Porto Santo Stefano are interesting sites for those interested in history.
