Monastier di Treviso, as its name suggests, is an important monastery town in the Italian region of Veneto, located a few miles inland from the Adriatic Sea. The skyline here is dominated by the abbey. Founded some 1,000 years ago by Benedictine monks, the Abbey of Santa Maria Pero has recently been restored. Though the old church is pretty well gone, the complex contains many fine historic buildings and old cellars that used to produce wine. Another impressive building is the Church of San Valentino. Some of the finest accommodation in hotels in Monastier di Treviso is found in the incredible villas, such as Villa Fiorita. The writer Ernest Hemingway was stationed here during WWI. The town lies close to many regional attractions. The beaches at Jesolo are only 30 minutes away, while the E70 Euroroute is only a few minutes away, making it easy to get in and out. The closest railway station, at Meolo, is about 10 minutes away. Venice's airport takes about 30 minutes to reach.
