Introduction to Milan - Porta Genova
Porta Genova is one of the most traditional districts in Milan, located in the southeast of the city. The district takes its name from the Genoa Gate, of which little now remains. It has its own train station, which is convenient for visitors going on daytrips to Mortara, a historical Lombardy town around one hour away. Guests staying at Porta Genova hotels also have the chance to enjoy some of the city’s most bohemian nightlife. Popular among young Milanese, alternative pubs and clubs line the Naviglio Grande canal which characterises the district. This is not the place for those interested in visiting Milan’s designer boutiques since shopping here centres on the Fiera di Senigallia street market. This is the place to find weird and unusual goods that cannot be purchased elsewhere in the city. The ‘alternative’ theme can be seen further in its modern street art, which differs greatly from the more classical art styles seen in other parts of the city. Visit our Milan Travel Guide
