Introduction to Milan - Outskirts
Best known for its designer shopping and exquisite architecture, Milan is considered to be one of Europe’s most cosmopolitan cities. Many of the best palaces and churches are situated in the city centre, but there are some delightful places located in the suburbs that should not be missed. Fortunately, the city’s extensive subway and tram networks put all of these places within easy reach. From the city centre, visitors can follow Corso Garibaldi north to Corso Como, which hosts some of the city’s best nightlife. The following day, revellers can recover by exploring the adjacent Sempione Park. Nearby, historians will enjoy discovering one of Italy’s most lavish cemeteries, the Neoclassical Cimitario Monumentale. Football fans will find that no visit to the city is complete without visiting the world-famous San Siro stadium, around six kilometres west of the city centre. On the other side of the city, the Porta Romana district is crammed with coffee shops and offers visitors a taste of the city’s suburban cafe culture. Guests can reach Milan hotels on the outskirts by flying into Malpensa Airport, around 50 minutes from the city by car.Visit our Milan Travel Guide
