Introduction to Milan - Ospedale Maggiore
Dating back to the 15th century, the Ospedale Maggiore is a grand old building that is located in the south of Milan city centre. Known locally as the ‘Big House’ (Ca’ Granda), it was at one time a community hospital. Nowadays, it is part of the University of Milan and one of the oldest examples of Renaissance architecture in the region. The Ospedale Maggiore is easy to reach, as the Duomo metro station is just 500m away. Duomo Square is probably the most majestic piazza in the city as it hosts the famous Gothic cathedral. Guests staying at Ospedale Maggiore hotels have the opportunity to climb the cathedral and experience panoramic views from its roof. The cathedral has its own museum, but to the south, the Royal Palace is also worth a visit, with some interesting exhibits regularly on show here. Food closest to the cathedral caters to tourists and is priced accordingly.
