Introduction to Milan - Cinisello Balsamo
Out of all the municipalities in the northern Italian province of Milan, only Sesto San Giovanni and the city of Milan have larger populations than Cinisello Balsamo. This municipality takes its name from the two smaller communities which merged into the present day municipality in 1928. Most of the Cinisello Balsamo hotels have vacancies all year-round. This municipality is situated just 10kms northeast of the middle of Milan, and an equal distance in the opposite direction from the community of Monza. The community's two main squares are called Gramsci, which was once Cinisello's primary square, and Soncino, formerly Balsamo's main square. The 16th century Villa Silva Ghirlanda Cipelletti, near the 17th century Church of Sant'Ambrogio, became one of Italy's first landscape gardens early in the 19th century. An elegant concert and conference hall, as well as a museum of contemporary photography, are both located nearby. The area is also home to some good shopping opportunities.
