Introduction to Milan - Cesano Maderno
The tranquil Lombardy town of Cesano Maderno lies just 20kms north of bustling Milan. Rail and tram journeys between the two cities last around half an hour. One of the Cesano Maderno hotels is located in the town's most significant landmark, the beautiful Borromeo Arese Palace. A large traditional Italian rose garden surrounds this 17th century palace, whose interior is filled with intricate frescos and a gallery of statues of previous palace residents. Even more sculptures stand in the palace's surrounding park, while two rows of lime trees grow in the adjacent cobblestoned square. The square is closed to motorised traffic and hosts a craft and hobby market each spring. The smaller Palazzo Arese Jacini took 10 years to construct during the early 17th century and now houses the world's first Swatch museum as well as an art gallery.
