Introduction to Messina - City Centre
The Sicilian city of Messina sits near the island's most northeasterly point and is only a five-mile boat trip from the Calabrian mainland. This is a relatively easy introduction to Sicily, with both regular ferries and high-speed hydrofoil services regularly crossing the strait from Calabria as well as several other regional destinations. The ferry port is very close to most hotels in Messina City Centre, which are also easy to reach from the highways covering Sicily. The E45 and E90 Euroroutes connect to the ferry port, and the A20 Autostrada is only a few minutes to the north. The railway station is also conveniently located in the same area. Though Messina's importance is derived largely from the volumes of people and cargo moving across the strait, there are some sights worth seeing here. The city is home to a Norman cathedral that has stubbornly refused to succumb to a series of disasters. To see the biggest astronomical clock in the world, head to Piazza del Duomo, where the huge device, built in 1733, is still in action.other spellings: messinacity centre hotels, mesina city center otel, messina citycentre hotell, mezina
