Introduction to Messina - Beach
The sickle-shaped port of Messina in Sicily's northeastern-most section has long been this southern Italian island's main gateway. Not surprisingly, beaches rank among the main attractions in Sicily's third-most populated city. Many Messina Beach hotels overlook the city's main coastal promenade and its variety of recreational facilities. The city of Tindari and the Aeolian Islands can easily be seen from the coastline of this city, which is situated just five kilometres from the mainland Italian community of Villa San Giovanni. The mainland can only be reached by hourly ferries. Beach-goers may surf, swim or snorkel near historic landmarks such as the Princes Lanza di Scalea Trabia castle and the Torre della Marina tower. The beaches are the location of most local nightlife, especially near the Piazza del Duomo, whose bell tower and cathedral have been immaculately preserved after the 1783 earthquake and WWII bombings destroyed much of this ancient city. The 13th century Sicilian king, Conrad, is buried within the cathedral's crypt.other spellings: messinahotels, mesina otel, messina hotell, mezina hote, mesina hotles
