Introduction to Matera, Italy
Matera is located in Basilicata in southern Italy and is the capital of the province of its same name. The city, which used to sustain solely on agriculture, recently made a name for itself in the upholstery industry. The city became more famous recently when it was used as the set for Mel Gibson's film Passion of the Christ. The city was also named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Hotels in Matera range in diversity from cheap guest houses to luxury five-star hotels. The city hosts an annual festival known as ""Festa della Madonna Bruna"" in early June and during this time hotels in Matera can become quickly overbooked. The summer holiday months are a particularly crowded time for this popular southern city. Most of the hotels in Matera are located in the centre of the city, which sits upon a canyon called Gravina of Matera that divides the city into two sections.other spellings: materahotels, matera otel, metera hotell, matera hote, matera hotle
