Introduction to Massa Carrara, Italy
The Tuscan province of Massa and Carrara lies in dramatically scenic northern Italy and was named Massa-Carrara after its two main towns prior to 2009, with Massa its provincial capital. Enclosed within the province are many picturesque traditional villages and little urban centres, with the famous sparkling white Carrara marble as well as tourism the main sources of revenue in the region. Visitors are drawn to Massa Carrara year-round for its glorious mountain vistas and outdoor sports opportunities. The capital, Massa, lies along the coast of the Tyrenian Sea, backed by the mountains, and is a hub for the manufacture of traditional crafts, as is its twin town, Carrara. Both towns make great bases for touring this beautiful region, with a good choice of Massa Carrara hotels and full tourist facilities. For history buffs, Massa's Ducal Palace, Malaspina Castle, cathedral and several fine piazzas are a treat for the eyes. Carrara's long history of providing superb marble blocks to sculptural geniuses such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci make the town a must-see on any trip. other spellings: massa carrarahotels, masa carara otel, massa carara hotell, masa carrara hote
