Introduction to Marsala - City Centre
Founded almost 2,500 years ago by the Carthaginians, the Sicilian city of Marsala is today better known as the home of the eponymous sweet wine that also lends its name and taste to the popular dish of the same name found in Indian restaurants. The city's colourful history includes getting its modern name from the Arabs. The city sits on Sicily's low-lying western coast. This incredible community has been the scene of numerous conquests and battles, from the days of the Phoenicians through the Bourbons and on to WWII. Today, hotels in Marsala City Centre offer the perfect chance to explore the maze of twisting streets that evoke imagery of North African souks. Throughout the city and across Cape Boeo, on which the community sits, there are historic sites including archaeological discoveries to keep history fans engaged. These include parts of the old city walls. The main street, Cassaro, is the hub of activity. The easiest way to arrive is by flying into the airport at Trapani, which is just 20kms away. Alternatively, the three-hour train ride from Palermo arrives at the station, which is nearby.other spellings: massalubrense citi centre hotels, lubrense citycenter hote, otel masa lubrenscitycentre
