Founded almost 2,500 years ago by the Carthaginians, the Sicilian city of Marsala is today better known as the home of the eponymous sweet wine that also lends its name and taste to the popular dish of the same name found in Indian restaurants. The city's colourful history includes getting its modern name from the Arabs. The city sits on Sicily's low-lying western coast. This incredible community has been the scene of numerous conquests and battles, from the days of the Phoenicians through the Bourbons and on to WWII.
