Introduction to Macerata, Italy
Lovely Macerata is a commune and the capital of the Marche region's Macerata Province in scenic central Italy. Its attractive Old Town is set on a hill, elegantly placed between the Potenza and Chienti rivers. After being set upon by barbarians centuries ago, the townspeople made for the safety of the hills, where they rebuilt Macerata. There's a lot to see here. In the Loggia dei Mercanti, found within the centrally located Piazza della Liberta, are two-tier arcades dating all the way back to the Renaissance. There's a good share of attractive plazas in town, such as Palazzo dei diamante, Piazza Vittorio Veneto and Palazzo Ricci, the latter in which you'll find an art gallery and a museum. The town also boasts a great neo-Classical cathedral that was erected in the late 18th century and has a Gothic bell tower that dates to the 15th century. A chief attraction here is the Sferisterio Opera Festival, held every July and August in Arena Sferisterio, which was built in the 1820s. Macerata hotels are conveniently located near these attractions and others.other spellings: naceratahotels, maceraat otel, macertaa hotell, macearta hote, macreata hotes
