Introduction to Lago di Garda - Arco
Arco, in Italy's northeast, is overlooked by a centuries-old castle that sits on a hill which dramatically borders the town on one side in the form of a steep cliff. Aside from its impressive medieval castle, this community in Trentino features a 15th century convent, housing an equally old image of the Virgin Mary. Artwork dating to the 14th century can be appreciated at the Church of Sant'Apollinare, while the 16th century Palazzo Marchettii offers a Giulio Romano-designed portal. Arco hotels cater mostly to Austrian and German visitors to the town, which is an ideal base for day-trippers to nearby Lake Garda. Lago di Garda, as the lake is known in Italian, is situated less than 10kms to the south, and is a hotspot for windsurfing. Driving around the lake, taking in the small towns and historical buildings that dot its shore, is a popular pastime among visitors to Arco. This area to the north of the lake is quieter than the towns along the south shore. other spellings: arcohotel, arko hotell, arrco hote, arcco hotles, arco hotle, arco hotes
