Introduction to Imperia, Italy
In the attractive commune and region of Liguria, in northwestern Italy, is the coastal settlement of Imperia, the capital of the province of Imperia. Top attractions here are the Museo dell' Olivo (Olive Tree Museum), Villa Grock and the Church of San Giovanni Battista, built in the mid-1700s. Also fine and worth a visit are the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Shrine of Nostra Signora delle Grazie. The Imperia region is famous for its excellent olives and flowers. It comes into its own every summer, when travellers flock here. Imperia's indoor-pool, Piscina Felice Cascione, has held many international aquatics events. The view of town is particularly striking from the vantage point of the sea. Other sites are Porto Maurizio and the Old Town, called Parasio. There's also the fascinating Naval Museum that's worth a peek. The town's Convent of Santa Chiara dates from 1365.
