Introduction to Genoa - Outskirts
Genoa, Italy is situated in the northwest part of the nation and its outskirts extend more than 30kms across the Ligurian Sea coastline and approximately 10kms north of the city centre into the valleys of Bisagno and Polcevera, towards the Apennine Mountains. This sprawling city contains over 90 different districts, and each one of them contains its own unique Genoa hotels and attractions. The Boccadasse district has evolved from a tiny fishing village into a scenic Genoa suburb with brightly coloured houses. Visitors can take a scenic cable car journey from Centro Storico, the city centre, to the residential neighbourhood of Castelletto. To the east of Centro Storico lies Varazze, a coastal resort which has attracted visitors for more than 100 years, especially in winter. Albisola, not far from Varazze, contains a pretty seafront and a picturesque 18th century villa. The Staglieno cemetery and a Roman aqueduct are just two of the sights visitors can admire during the 25km rail journey between Genoa and the village of Casella to its north.
