The town of Follonica is located in the world famous region of Tuscany, in the central region of Italy. More than 22,000 inhabitants can be found living within the city limits, and plenty of Follonica hotels dot the cityscape. The town is a wonderful tourist centre for the coastal area of Tuscany and hosts many thousands of tourists over the course of the year. The settlement is only a short distance from the SS1 highway, which is an important roadway that travels from the French border all the way to Rome. It is also possible to reach Follonica via railway, as there are a number of cities connected to the settlement by train, including Naples, Pisa and Rome. International travellers don't usually venture to the town, but this seaside resort settlement is certainly an Italian favourite. The main site in town is the beach, which has been awarded Blue Flag certification for cleanliness since the turn of the 21st century. However, the ancient Church of St Leopold is also worth seeing. When it comes to interesting structures, the commune contains the medieval Castle of Valli and the remains of the 13th century Pievaccia tower.
