Introduction to Florence - Porta al Prato
Porta al Prato is an ancient city gate located in the east of Florence city centre. One of the city’s main train stations also takes the same name and is located nearby. As such, Porta al Prato hotels are considered to be most useful for train travellers. In addition, this district is on the edge of the city’s restricted traffic zone, so guests travelling by car will find staying in this area convenient. There are few tourist attractions in the immediate vicinity, but guests can find plenty of shops and restaurants on the main road to the east of the station. Regular buses and trams depart from Porta al Prato to the historic centre, just a couple of kilometres away. However, the nearby Fortezza da Bassa is worth a visit. This ancient fort was built in the 16th century and is surrounded by beautiful gardens featuring fountains, lakes and ducks. The fort is just 500m from the train station.Visit our Florence Travel Guide
