Historic Greve in Chianti is a thriving town in the Chianti wine district south of Florence, in central Italy. It sits on the banks of the Greve River, midway from Florence to Siena. The focal point of the town is an old square, which is still the venue for a weekly market. Covered arcades housing craft shops and cafes ring the square. The adjacent San Francesco monastery now houses the Museo d'Arte Sacra’s collections of religious paintings and sculptures. The hilltop Verrazzano Castle is just outside town and a great vantage point from which to view the undulating countryside, olive groves and vineyards in the locality. In the town, there are lots of Greve in Chianti hotels and pensions. Trattorias and restaurants in the town serve locally produced wine as well as gourmet delicacies including arista, roast pork, and ravioli nudi, meat and herb dumplings (without the pasta).
