Introduction to Florence - City Centre
An incredibly beautiful city filled with a seemingly endless range of buildings testifying to its artistic and historical importance, Florence is one of Italy’s great cities and a Tuscan gem. Hotels in Florence city centre sit at the heart of this city that launched the Italian Renaissance which dominated European arts, culture and politics for nearly three centuries. Much of this incredible history is illustrated by the architecture of the nearby historic quarter as well as the incredible galleries and museums that abound here. The Uffizi Gallery, home to the best collection of Renaissance artwork in the world, is perhaps the greatest example of the star power of Florence. A 10-minute journey to the north, the Galleria dell’Accademia houses Michelangelo’s famed David as well as many other priceless works of art. It is easy to find thanks to the long queues of visitors! Just as easy to spot is the great Piazza della Signoria, a few minutes’ walk to the west. The similarly splendid Palazzo Pitti, on the other side of the river over the famous Ponte Vecchio, is generally less packed with tourists.Visit our Florence Travel Guide
