Introduction to Florence - Calenzano
A relatively small community located about 30 minutes’ drive to the north of the Italian city of Florence, Calenzano enjoys a location that offers convenient access to its big Tuscan neighbour as well as superb local sights and incredible natural scenery in the surrounding countryside. Hotels in Calenzano are less than 15 minutes by taxi from Peretola Airport, though a better selection of cheap flights can be found at Pisa’s international airport, about an hour’s journey to the east. The Villa Ginori a Collina, a popular local site, is an historic property with panoramic views of the countryside. Close by is the Church of San Niccolo, which is more than 600 years old and contains important frescoes. Twenty minutes on foot to the north sits the Church of San Donato, which was established about 1,000 years ago and contains a cloister created by Carlo de’ Medici in 1460. The town enjoys excellent access to rail services, with two stations available nearby. Beautiful alpine scenery surrounds the town, with Mount Morello lying less than an hour by car to the north.
