Green Florentine hills surround the picturesque village of Bivigliano, just 20kms north of Florence. Bivigliano hotels may be situated in the Italian countryside, but they are still just brief journeys away from Florence's bustling city centre. This hamlet is named after a member of the renowned Medici family and stands at the foot of the famous Monte Senario ski tourism area. A large park surrounds the 16th century Villa Pozzolini in the village centre. Visitors can see the entire village from the top of the Monte Senario Convent. Other historic and religious buildings here include the St Bartholomew Monastery and the Church of San Romolo. The nearby, larger municipality of Vaglia features the open-air Villa Demidoff, whose Dell'Appennino Fountain is the best known of its many beautiful fountains and sculptures. But mostly visitors use the village as an affordable base for launching daytrips into the Renaissance city of Florence, one of Italy's must-visits for its Duomo cathedral among other draws.
