Introduction to Florence - Airport
Florence Airport, better known as Peretola Airport or Amerigo Vespucci Airport, is a small, single runway facility located just seven kilometres from the historic city’s downtown district. It’s one of two airports in Italy’s Tuscany province and serves the city and its surroundings with domestic flights and a few international routes to Lyon, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Vienna, Munich, Luxembourg, Zurich and Brussels. Most of its carriers are low-cost or subsidiaries of full service airlines. Its two small terminals handle many flights, bringing tourists to the city, which is internationally famous for its beauty and long history, with onward transportation to Florence by local bus, taxi or rental car. Florence Airport hotels are located on the complex’s approach roads or closer towards the city centre. The artistic, cultural and architectural gems of the city include the famous Uffizi Gallery, the Ponte Vecchio bridge, the glorious medieval Old Quarter with its Palazzo Vecchio, Strozzi Palace and Michelangelo’s world-famous marble carving of the biblical David.
