The commune of Favignana is actually found on the island of the same name, situated off the western coastline of Sicily. The community is located about 10kms from the coast, between the towns of Trapani and Marsala. Most travellers who enter the island first fly into Trapani International Airport then travel by boat to Favignana. There are a number of Favignana hotels available for tourists, and throughout the course of the year, they are generally busy. The island township has developed into a popular tourist resort town. Visitors primarily come for the beautiful caves of calcerenite that can be found near the town and around the island. In addition to cave visits, visitors can also spend a fair amount of time snorkelling or scuba diving just off the island. The town centre offers plenty of scuba guides for tourists to choose from. The island doesn't really contain any popular beaches, a result of the volcanic rock that fringes the island.
