Introduction to Desenzano del Garda - City Centre
Known as the gateway to Lake Garda, the beautiful city of Desenzano del Garda occupies an enviable position at the southern end of the long, narrow and extremely picturesque lake. The city benefits from excellent transport links, making it easy to arrive, leave and explore both Lake Garda and the surrounding area. Desenzano del Garda City Centre hotels are all within a few minutes of the ferry port on Via Anelli and the train station to the south of Viale Cavour. Buses operated by APTV stop at the train station and make it easy to tour the western side of the lake. While in the city, don't miss the Cathedral of St Mary Magdalene. Located on Freedom Square, this is one of the town's key monuments. Another important monument is the home of Saint Angela Merici, a former resident and the town's principal patron. The little village of Srimione, looking like something out of a children's fantasy book, is easily reached out on the stunning peninsula to the east of Desenzano. The village and its harbour are protected by Scagliero Castle, which also looks like something you would expect to find in a Disney theme park.
