Introduction to Cremona - City Centre

The city of Cremona, situated in the middle of northern Italy on the Po River's left bank, is most famous as the hometown of Antonio Stradivari and many other musicians who played stringed instruments. As Cremona is just 85kms southeast of Milan, many visitors choose to spend their holidays at Cremona City Centre hotels instead of their more costly Milan counterparts. Most city attractions are very close to Piazza del Comune, the city's main square, and visitors who climb the over 500 steps to the top of the Torrazzo tower will be rewarded with unforgettable views of Cremona and its surrounding countryside. The nearly 113m tall Torrazzo has towered over the city since 1309, contains the world's biggest astronomical clock and is the oldest European tower at over 100m which remains standing. The city's cathedral was constructed during the early 12th century, while its Town Hall was built about a century later. The centre's other main attraction is the Stradivarius Museum, housed inside the musician's former workshop.
