Introduction to Conselve, Italy
The Paduan town of Conselve sits near the Venetian Riviera, about 40kms from Venice, in the north of Italy. Though a relatively small community, it boasts an impressive number of great villas. One of these, the 18th-century Malipiero Zen-Schiesari Villa, is today the Town Hall. Even older is the 15th-century Villa Lazara, which has hosted France's King Henry III as well as a bishop and a pope. The 16th-century Villa de Bourbon-Conti belonged to the Princes of Conti. The Palazzo Ferrante-Deganello originally dates from the 16th century and was built by the Michiel family of Venetian nobles. Today, it wears an 18th-century façade and sits within its original gardens. The Cathedral of San Lorenzo, which was built in the 18th century, contains fine works of art and an important altarpiece. Many other fine churches and impressive villas can be enjoyed on walks from hotels in Conselve. A large regional park at Colli Euganei is about 20 minutes to the west, just past the A13 highway. The city of Padua is a little more than 30 minutes to the north.
