Introduction to Chioggia, Italy

The coastal settlement of Chioggia is found along the seaside of the Italian region of Veneto, just 25kms to the south of Venice. The township is actually located upon an island, and it holds a population of more than 50,000 people. The town is placed on the southern gateway to the Venice Lagoon, and is a popular place to visit, even though the romantic capital of the world, Venice, is only a 15-minute drive from the town. Chioggia hotels can be found throughout the settlement, making it easy for travellers to find accommodation when holiday in the area. The town is not an overly renowned medieval settlement, but there are certainly some magnificent attractions which radiate a typical medieval façade. The Church of Saint Maria is one such attraction. It was constructed in the 11th century and still stands strong today. In addition to this, St Andrew's Church is a magnificent 12th century structure. Besides the architecture in Chioggia, the canals and cafes make this commune a 'mini Venice', perfect for tourists.
