Introduction to Catania - City Centre
Lying on the east coast of Sicily is the Italian city of Catania. With its sweeping vista of the Ionian Sea, this city offers visitors a chance to explore the gorgeous Baroque architecture that is responsible for its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Even more exciting is the location of the city in a geologically active area, right at the foot of the notoriously tempestuous Mount Etna. With countless civilizations laid to waste in the past by devastating earthquakes and the eruptions of this active volcano, Catania has a long and eventful history. The main attractions can easily be accessed by foot from most of the Catania hotels and they include Saint Agatha Abbey, the Greek Acropolis of Montevergine, the Church of the Santo Carcere and the Greek-Roman theatre. In between sight-seeing, visitors can make a stop at any of the number of kiosks located around the city. These act as social points for the locals and offer refreshments such as beautiful Italian coffee and limoncello, a strong liquor brewed from fresh lemons.other spellings: cataniacity centre hotels, citycentre catenia otel, catanai city center hotell
