Introduction to Catania - Acireale
The Italian seaside town of Acireale is located on the northeast coast of the Sicilian island's province of Catania. Situated at the base of famous Mount Etna, this charming town is surrounded by verdant countryside full of citrus trees. Built upon several old lava beds, the town offers visitors an incredible range of attractions, from both sandy beaches and rocky coasts to natural hot spas and the chance to watch lava outflows light up the night on the flanks of Etna in the distance. Though the local lava fields are considered a prime attraction, the town actually has many more interesting spots within easy reach of hotels in Acireale. The Ionian Sea, which the town overlooks, offers a huge range of water sports activities. Fine sandy beaches can be found a few minutes away by the sea at La Timpa, which is also home to a big nature reserve. Other stretches of coast are filled with lush vegetation, incredible rock formations and huge numbers of seabirds. The cute little Church of San Biagio contains relics of Gabriele Allegra, a noted 20th-century Franciscan Friar. St Peter's Basilica, however is a much more impressive building. It sits in the Piazza Duomo, which is in the oldest part of town and is surrounded by beautiful old buildings.other spellings: acirealehotel, acirale hotell, acirele hote, aciraele hotles, acereale hotle, accireale
