Introduction to Castellammare di Stabia, Italy
The busy seaside town of Castellammare di Stabia sits on the other side of Italy's infamous Mt Vesuvius from the city of Naples. This is an area of considerable natural beauty, and the town rewards those seeking a laid-back holiday. From hotels in Castellammare di Stabia, visitors can easily reach the sun-kissed hills, the windswept beaches and the many springs. The hot springs - some 28 of them - are perhaps the biggest draw here, as they have been since ancient times. One of the biggest historical attractions is the old Roman town of Stabiae. Destroyed by Vesuvius in 79 AD, the remains are a few minutes away. Stabiae's more famous ruined neighbour, Pompeii, is about 15 minutes to the north. The castle after which the city is named originally dates from the 9th century. It's located on the Sorrento highway, overlooking the harbour. Rail travel is easy as there are several train stations within easy reach. The E45 Euroroute, a few minutes to the north, is easily reached. The many ferries and flights out of Naples are less than an hour away by road.other spellings: castellammare di stabiahotels, castalammare stabia hotell, castelammare distabia
