Introduction to Carmignano, Italy
Carmignano is just one of the many beautiful towns tourists can enjoy in Italy's Tuscany region. Unfortunately, many foreign tourists miss this great destination, which is so close to Florence, it can easily offer a fine daytrip. One of the town's greatest attractions is its old history of winemaking, which combines the grapes of Cabernet and Sangiovenese. Whether visiting for the day or staying at hotels in Carmignano, visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of religious attractions. Chief among these draws is the 12th-century church of St Michael and Francis, home to Renaissance master Pontormo's Visitation. The town's 10th-century castle is remarkably well-preserved and accessible in the town's upper section. The nearby town of Comeana, just 10 minutes away, offers more to interest history buffs. The most valuable historically are the remains of Etruscan burial sites. Artimino, about 15 minutes to the south, is home to La Fernanda, one of Italy's great Medici villas. Outside this town is the parish church of St Mary and St Leonard, a fine example of a 10th-century church, once typical of this region.other spellings: carmignanohotels, carmegnano otel, hotellin carmignano, camignano hote
