Bolzano is a city in the German speaking South Tyrol region of northern Italy, close to the Austrian border. It is well located in a valley, in the Alps, at the confluence of two rivers. Bolzano is a large city with several parts. The old town (Alt Stadt) holds most of the town's tourist sights and a good selection of of Bolzano hotels dining establishments. The heart of the Alt Stadt is Walther Square (Waltherplatz) and it is ringed by stately buildings, and contains imposing statues and cafe terraces all set against a background of majestic mountains. Several hostels and pensions are in the streets leading away from the square. The Gothic style Bolzano Cathedral and medieval arcades packed with shops are just two of Bolzano's attractions. The Archaeological Museum contains Otzi, the alpine iceman. Leading hotelier chains operate a few of this city hotels options. Outside the Alt Stadt there are more hotels dotted around town, a good nightlife, many restaurants, and holds a renowned annual Christmas market.
