Introduction to Bevagna, Italy
Located in the glorious Umbrian countryside, Bevagna is relatively unusual in this region, being one of the few towns on flat, low-lying ground instead of atop an historic hill. Here, tourists can enjoy historic and cultural delights in what is considered to be among Italy's most beautiful towns. The town's breathtaking architecture is characterised largely by large stone buildings towering above narrow, winding lanes and lovely squares. The most interesting of these squares, Piazza Silvestri, is home to the beautiful churches of San Silvestri, with its stunning 15th-century crucifix, and the similarly Romanesque San Michele. Tourists will also find the Gothic Palace of the Consols looming rather heavily over a pretty stone fountain. The town's tiny size makes it easy to reach such sights on foot from hotels in Bevagna. Fans of interesting art will enjoy the civic museum in Corso Giacomo Matteotti. Be sure to enquire about seeing the town's underground Roman baths. The 18th-century Palazzo del Municipio, with its small museum, is found on the same street as the baths. The town can be reached by road via the SS74/SS3 at Foligno or from the E45, both of which are about 30 minutes away.other spellings: bevagnahotels, otelin bevakna, pevagna hotell, bavegna hote, bervagna hotes
