Introduction to Bergamo - City Centre
Hidden in the beautiful foothills of the European Alps, the city of Bergamo is about 40kms to the north east of Italy∈s favourite northern metropolis, Milan. Getting to Bergamo is primarily done by air, as the town is served by a medium sized airport known as Orio al Serio Airport. The city is largely divided into two separate districts - the upper historical city and the lower modern city. The Bergamo city centre is generally considered to the centre of the lower city, as it is the motor engine that keeps the town moving. Most of the modern hotels in Bergamo are found in the city∈s lower CBD, while a selection of the more historical Bergamo hotels are located in the upper district. The wonderful sights of Bergamo∈s medieval town are only a short cable car ride from the Bergamo city centre. Hiring a car is possible, but parking spaces in the upper city are limited. Cappella Colleoni, the Old Square (Piazza Vecchia) and the town Citadel (Cittadella) are just some of the attractions located in the upper town of Bergamo.
