Introduction to Baveno, Italy
Tourists have flocked to the relaxing lakeside community of Baveno, Italy for at least 1,000 years. This community situated on the western shore of Italy's second-biggest lake, Lago Maggiore, has long been a popular thermal resort, and many of the villas first constructed during the 19th century as summer homes for affluent visitors not only remain standing today, but have been converted into Baveno hotels. Rome's San Paolo Fuori le Mura church and Milan's cathedral and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele are just some of the best known buildings constructed with red and pink granite extracted from the quarries which brought much wealth to this part of Lombardy. One of the best known red granite caves opens onto the foot of the 890m high Mount Camoscio, where the Fonti di Baverno water springs rise. Many of the buildings within Baveno itself date back to the 10th century, including its parish church and octagon-shaped baptistery. other spellings: bavenohotels, bavenno otel, barveno hotell, baveno hote, hotesin baveno, baveno
